Netflix Monthly Picks: January 2018
Updated: Jan 19, 2018
Many of my close friends will know that starting a blog has been something I've wanted to do for quite a long time. Now I won't say that I'm the best blogger, writer or even that I have that much important to say. However, I will say that there are lot of things that I do that people are always shocked ab
out. The first being how much Netflix I watch!
So, after going to work daily and having my colleagues shocked that I was able to finish a series in day, I thought I would talk about my favourite shows and my recommendations.
*Forward warning: I'm apparently not good at explaining plots, so bare with me!*
Seeing as this is my first blog post and the first of this monthly series, I thought I would not only talk about my January faves but also the best and most relevant series of 2017. So lets just jump right in...
1. The Sinner
Now, I actually binged watched this in November 2017 but it's still honestly one of my favourites. I haven't watched too many films or tv shows with Jessica Biel but I was so pleasantly surprised with her performance in this Netflix original. Honestly, she was amazing! If you haven't heard about The Sinner and have no idea what I'm talking about, Jessica Biel plays the character of a young mother who one day is completely "consumed by a fit of rage and stabs a stranger to death" the series basically follows her (in prison) on her quest to find out why she would commit such an act.
I don't really have much to say other than I was engrossed the whole time and Biel's performance was awesome, I felt like I was really living her story with her.
2. Peaky Blinders
So, I'm really late on the Peaky Blinders hype but I am totally in love with this show! I'm watching on Netflix and so haven't seen season 4 (missed it on BBC iPlayer, which I'm really annoyed about!) Argh I can't even express how much I love this show! Honestly, watch the trailer here you'll want to watch the show immediately!!
Another fantastic Netflix original. Okay so funnily enough I've never really been interested in History, you would not have found me reading up on all things past or even watching a documentary. But what can I say, I am a changed woman, I have really been getting into watching tv shows based on the war or set in the 1800s or 1900s! I saw Rebellion pop up as a recommended for me and after the blurb I was sold. Rebellion tells the story of the 1916 Easter Uprising in Ireland. Being half Northern-Irish
I had to watch just to have a better understanding! Although this is all based on fictional characters it's easy to envision the reality of this piece of history.
4. Hacksaw Ridge
Following the war theme this movie with Andrew Garfield was awesome! I remember seeing the trailer for this film and really wanted to go see, but I never got the chance. So when I saw it on Netflix I watched it immediately! I don't want to give anything away so I'll just say that I really recommend this film, it was so good! Plus it's based on a true story, which is even better!
Another fantastic film! Beware it has some very violent parts, which were very sad to watch but it adds so much realism to the film. I was engrossed - amazing film!
Those are my top 5, but I've watched a lot more, so here are some more recommendations:
1. Designated Surviver
Such a good series can't wait for it to come back in March
2. The Foreigner
Jackie Chan as you've never seen him before
3. Stranger Things
Of course this is on the list - I imagine you've probably watched it but if you haven't what are you waiting for?!
This is seriously good! Sooo gripping!
5. What Happened To Monday
Honestly, such as good Netflix film!
6. The Siege of Jadotville
Loved this film!
